Samuel Johnson Crawford was an American Civil War General in the Union armies, and the third Governor of Kansas. He also served as one of the first members of the Kansas Legislature.
Time in Office: January 9, 1865 - November 4, 1868; resigned to take command of the 19th Kansas Regiment.
Born: April 10, 1835, Lawrence County, Indiana.
Died: October 21, 1913, Topeka, Kansas.
Republican lawyer from Garnett. The youngest man to serve as Kansas governor; aged 29 years when he took office.
